Sounds like we’ll be exploring the movement of your ribs as a part of the function of breathing doesn’t it? And we will do some of that, but that’s not really the way to understand the theme(s) we’re be working with on Tuesday mornings. Rather, we’ll alternate between two related ideas. One Tuesday we’ll do a lesson that attempts to bring more efficiency to your breathing and the next Tuesday we’ll do a lesson that is designed to bring more movement and flexibility to your twelve pairs of ribs. Breathing lessons can seem somewhat “static” in terms of how much movement in space is asked by the lesson and some people like more movement in their mornings. That’s why the rib lessons will involve lots of movement and when the ribs move more freely, breathing nearly always improves. We’ll move back and forth between these two ideas while exploring how they intersect at least through the end of August.
Where's Your Head? (Let’s ask your spine….)
In the new Friday morning class, we’ll begin by exploring movements of the spine with a particular focus on learning how just about any movement of your spine has (or could have) an influence on the position of your head. Of course you have the power do something muscularly to mute, dampen or even prevent most any change of position of your head. You might be using that power more often than you are aware. Perhaps, you are using that power more often than is “good” for you. If you’d like to learn more about yourself in action, find improvement in the carriage of your head, become more comfortable being upright and find more balance and stability, the Friday morning class is for you.
This class is always FREE
If you're new to Feldenkrais, this is the class to begin with. Mark gears each Saturday class toward illuminating a particular aspect or two of how and why the Method works. Mark will also speak more during the class about the specific way or ways each lesson is designed to improve your efficiency in movement. A brief Q & A period follows each class.
In his article, "Learn to Learn," Dr. Feldenkrais offers instructions for how, and some of the reasoning behind why, we ask you to pay attention in very specific ways during ATM class.
The following are service marks or certification marks of the Feldenkrais Guild of North America: Feldenkrais®, Feldenkrais Method®, Functional Integration®, Awareness Through Movement®, ATM®, FI®, and Guild Certified Feldenkrais PractitionerCM.
